Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti

When asked who Samantha Pleet wanted to help her celebrate the opening of her Pop-Up Shop, she said Ariel Pink of course! Come see Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti perform at the tea party themed opening reception for Samantha this Friday evening. Not to be miss!!!

Space 15 Twenty had the opportunity to exclusively interview Mr. Pink on what he's been doing lately...

1520: You started out since ten writing and recording songs and as a result, had accumulated hundreds and hundreds of cassette recordings. Thankfully, Animal Collective had enough good sense to release them into three albums on their own Paw-Tracks label. It's been a while since the last release... What have you been up to these days?
AP: Playing live, rehearsing, recording, online T-shirt orders, youtube ethio-music videos, reading, paying the bills.

1520: What are you thinking about how you want your next album to be like?
AP: The record will essentially be a formal reintroduction; me saying "hello friend. My name is Ariel Pink. You've probably read my name online somewhere, maybe your best friend burned you some of my older records, or perhaps you even think we've met at some time in the past. Baloney! Everything you think you know is WRONG- DEAD WRONG. THIS is me, naked, without the buffer of awful tape noise drowning out any lack of vision.

1520: You've been a one-man band until now. You have a good line-up and we're really looking forward to see you this Friday. How is it playing with the band?
[The band consists of keyboardist Kenny Gilmore (Lilys), bassist Tim Koh (White Magic, All Night Radio), drummer Aaron Sperske (Beachwood Sparks, Lilys), and guitarist Cole M. Greif-Neill (The Samps)]
AP: Yeah, Wicked Fun Times

Ariel and band are so excited about showcasing their new songs this Friday that they've let us (and you!) have a listen to their new awesome song, "Can't Hear My Eyes," the forthcoming 7" release on Mexican Summer. Pure lolliPOP heaven!

CRYBABY Presents at Space 15 Twenty: "Do Not Remove" Opening Event

CRYBABY Presents at Space 15 Twenty

“Do Not Remove” Opening Event

February 4th, 2012, 7:00pm-10:00pm

On February 4th 2012, CRYBABY Presents is excited to announce their move from 171 S. La Brea to their new temporary installation space at Space 15Twenty.

Their upcoming show, “Do Not Remove,” will open on the evening of Saturday, February 4th, in conjunction with the White Iris Records Music Series. The opening night of “Do Not Remove” will include a special guest performance by a local Los Angeles based band and DJ set by Sean Bowie of Teams.

CRYBABY Presents’ third show, “Do Not Remove” (February 4th- March 29th, 2012) will debut an exhibition featuring work by CRYBABY founders Dakota Solt and Lisa Ziven. Together the girls push the fine art element of a commercial object through processing and reinventing unconventional subject matters into salable and usable pieces of art.

In “Do Not Remove” Dakota Solt’s prints of digital collages play with the re-appropriation of imagery and slogans by altering the physical nature of an object, while Lisa Ziven’s selection of sculptural pillows and soft goods continue this conversation as three-dimensional representations of Solt’s prints.

“Do Not Remove” will also include a curated installation of home products by Molla Space and The Evolution Store, accessories by Surface to Air, Minimarket, Illesteva, Hansel from Basel and Baggu, as well as jewelry by Upper Metal Class and Etten Eller. The installation will also include CRYBABY Presents original clothing designs and accessories, BLK DNM, Samantha Pleet and Something Else.

In addition to the pop-up store, CRYBABY will host a White Iris Records music series starting on the opening night, February 4th with February 18th, and March 3rd concerts to follow. The series will include performances by local bands, a special DJ set, drinks, and late night shopping. CRYBABY Presents will also be featuring background studio visits with the bands on their site at www.crybabypresents.com.

CRYBABY Presents is a revolving concept shop that will continue to pop up in different spaces. Their first shop on La Brea Ave. featured two art and design installations entitled “Holy Smoke” (October 15th-December 1st) and “TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE” (December 10th-January 26th). Their current space will be at Space 15Twenty for the months of February and March.
