A Generation Gap: Music Purchasing to Music Downloading
My 11th grade Modern US History class assigned us the most unrestrained project I've ever received. I imagine they intended to see what we could do without their smothering guidance, and so the project was broad, vague, and tempting to a student like myself who is not always so keen on limiting instruction. The assignment was to make a 4-6 minute documentary on a topic that has evolved or developed over the coarse of modern US history. Without reservation I jumped to the verdict that I'd make a piece focusing on the way the music industry and music consumer has developed with and because of the digital transformation (or revolution, human apocalypse, whatever you may deem it to be). The brief documentary discusses the monetary development/downfall of the music industry, the music consumer of today and tomorrow, discovering music in this technological climate, the place vinyl has in society, the roles of record labels… the monotonous listing continues. For the piece I interviewed:

British filmmaker Peter Greenaway has created a handful of odd and remarkable films since 1980's The Falls. A three-hour collection of 92 flight-related shorts, the film was his first feature-length production and highly suggestive of the brilliant, provocative work he would go on to make.
In more recent years, Greenaway has taken a performative turn, in gigs as a VJ as well as video installation artist, that often incorporate projectors, lasers, and more. Taking an interest in classical and Renaissance painting, he began featuring seminal works in immersive installations for his series Ten Classic Paintings Revisited. Kitsch and yet critically acclaimed, the series has created a splashy dialogue about the seemingly dated medium and its relation to modern technology.
The first of these digital projects to show stateside, Leonardo's Last Supper: A Vision of Peter Greenaway, has come to NYC's Park Avenue Armory. Superimposing digital projections and the music of Marco Robino on a recreation of the painting, the 45-minute "remix" of daVinci's masterwork is open now until January 6. Check out the preview below and purchase tickets here.
Making work in a league of its own, New York-based duo Pamela Reed and Matthew Rader produce fashion editorials in the form of animated GIFs. Going by the moniker Reed + Rader, the two have garnered attention with their fusion of fashion and technology through work for clients such as V, Pop, and recently, a davidelfin photoshoot for Dazed Digital. Check out the twins pictured and the rest of their portfolio in action -- the jpeg above does it no justice!

LYKKE LI - GET SOME
Following up to her 2008 debut Youth Novels, pop darling Lykke Li recently announced her sophomore effort, Wounded Rhymes, will be released in the US on March 1. The album is being produced by fellow Swede Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn & John, and judging by its first single "Get Some," its bound to be even catchier than the last. Download the single for free at her website.
