A dear friend to us, Peter Sutherland who is currently on location in London, graciously took some time from his busy schedule and answered some questions about his work and process which is currently on view at The Company of People Group Exhibition here at Gallery Space.
"I like the show, I like young Landon (curator) and I'm excited to work with him. He is good vibes and you can see why he can make it happen + Andrew is in there so it becomes a 'Suth Affair.' Heh heh.
My images in the show were all his choice, he went to my apt (while I was away) and chose some prints and collages. My process for collaging is to order stacks of magazines from eBay and edit through them as quickly as I can because I hate having smelly old mag stacks in my apt. Then I listen to music and work with a roll of tape to make simple compositions and hope for the best. Sometimes they work.

I made a photo rug about 5 years ago. I like the feeling of sending off an image to the company and seeing what kind of janky rendering of that image you get back. The blankets were done with Nicholas Gottlund of Gottlund Verlag. We made an edition of 2 images and he is selling them. I love this sort of stuff and I like the challenge of making new work in a variety of mediums. It's kind of cool that the blankets (and rugs) lie somewhere between being art objects and products. Like if you start using it and its gets all linted up it will probably not be worth anything, but you get the enjoyment because you like it and you know it was expensive. It's like getting new Jordans and wearing them without socks just because you can."
